2nd September 2025 2026 Jasper Library Visits: Calling all Libraries, Librarians and Library support groups, or anyone who has access to same: Libraries, as we all know, are vitally important and need our full support, something I am very happy to give - events add a little something to the Library's roster of events, so in 2025 I instigated a 'Library Appearance' strategy which was (and still is) going really well. In 2025 I visited libraries in Benson, Bridport, Chester, Bampton, Skewan, Neath, Sonning, Connah's Quay, Mold, Abingdon, Rhiwbina, Stevenage and Nailsea. Still to come for 2025 are Newbury, Seaford, Thame, Maesteg, Salisbury, Leicester and Adderbury. Twenty-one, all told, not counting festivals and bookshop events. So: 2026. Basically, it works like this: I turn up and talk about writing, being published, chat to aspiring writers and do a Q/A, then a signing. If you have no budget for expenses, don't worry: that's on me. Library budgets are notoriously tight. If you are a teeny-tiny library that can only seat eight or so then that's fine too. If you are further afield like the West Country, Norfolk or Scotland, let's try and figure something out. So that's basically it. Bookings for 2026 now being taken. Share this with any interested parties and get in touch via jasper(at)jasperfforde.com and let's do some libraries... Picture: Stuttgart Library, this year. ![]()
13th April 2025 This is my mother, Marya Fforde, back in 1964 when she was a mere stripling of 37, taken on a walking holiday in Switzerland. It's the time of year when I lace up my action booties and head to the hills, blister plaster van following in close pursuit to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society - 26 miles walk in the Brecon Beacons. My Mum lived with Alzheimer's for seven years until she passed away in 2023, aged 96. I'll be doing the trek on the 14th June 2025 - this will be my third - and any amount you can spare would by wonderful, thank you! Team Fforde's Fundraiser for Alzheimer's Society. ![]()
4th February 2025 Substack As Social Media becomes increasingly joyless, I'm going to be experimenting with Substack as a depository for more long term essays and thoughts and news. Go over and have a look, if you wish. There is currently an article I did for Waterstones a few years back, retelling children's stories as political allegories.. If you like what you see, please have a look and follow, if you so wish. ![]()

5th March 2024 Sponsored Walk for The Alzheimer's Society This is Mum in 2020, when she was a guest in our house during Lockdown-1. It was a bright and warm May afternoon, so I wheeled her chair into the garden. Mum had Alzheimer's when this picture was taken, and she passed away in October 2023, aged 96. Last year 'Team Fforde' of Mari and myself did the 26-mile trek in the Brecon Beacons to raise funds for Alzheimer's research for The Alzheimer's Society, and later on Mari did her first Marathon in Amsterdam (Go Mari!!!) also to raise funds for this very worthy cause. I won't frighten you with statistics, but it's almost a certainty that someone close to you will get some sort of Dementia, and Alzheimer's is by far and away the leading form. But it IS possible to do something, it just needs funds - and not just for the research, but also for ongoing assistance with care, as many people are finding themselves having to 'step up to the plate' - and they all need support, which is something that The Alzheimer's Society is especially good at supporting. The Alzheimer's sponsored 26-miler is something we will keep on doing, and this year we will do two - once in the Beacons, and again, in the Peak District. If you can spare anything at all to raise some cash for this worthy cause, please go to our href="https://tinyurl.com/2vbv8bmt"> JustGiving page.
